Reflecting on year 4 of WoWS - What have you liked/disliked?
Shaka_D replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in General Discussion
Agree with the OP. Whereas many in the gaming industry are starting to look at loot boxes in a new light with a view to restricting them, it seems WG have turned up the production of them to try exploit their use as much as possible through the loopholes and gaps in legislation. WG do seem to me to have become more greedy over the last year or so. Further to this, despite their upgrading of certain visual elements in the game their engine is starting to look really dated now, with effects and the like looking old compared to many 'other' games out there. Unless they pull out all the stops I think my own interest in the game won't last very long and I have seen this already with a few pals I constantly chat to. It might be that the only thing WG excel at at the moment in terms of creativity is new ways to make themselves more money, but not much else in terms of gameplay and longevity. It's the same ol grind over and over with WG placing far too much value of silly little consumable items. If I looked at our relationship with the developers in terms of a business deal, I'd say we've not yet reached Pareto optimality, and at present it's WG benefitting more from our player / developer arrangement. The talk of free stuff from them is not free, it never is, and justify it whichever way we like its always the fact that remains that time IS money, time is not free, rewards are not free, so there is no point in treating them as generous benefactors as so many here do. -

The problem is how often is it needed? -
I haven't received my tokens yet either

Nice anniversary event WG. Well done. A pleasant surprise indeed.
-
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have here a fine example of what is known as a 'First World' problem
-
Must say I am glad WG have done this. It feels worthy of an anniversary event. Well done WG

You won't be the only one I reckon. I'm also getting tired of them overstating the importance of their rewards and the stupid little missions which offer nothing but more useless consumables (and of course the people crying about it all being free)....e.g. 25 000 base xp for three asian lantern camo's......they've truly lost the plot using consumables so reliant on matchmaking and luck as rewards and then for so few of them. I think the only thing they truly excel at at the moment is poor decision making. Try tell them that though, lol. It's the blind leading the blind there at present. It's always sad when it gets to the point of being quite upset with them because they don't look and listen to feedback, and then acting as if we're being ungrateful. I'm not expecting much with the upcoming event, I expect it to be some hyped up trash again with them window-dressing it all with words and such but underneath it all is a downplayed scrooge-like thing...oh and don't forget to watch twitch for your 1 in 5000 000 0000 00000000 00000000000000000000000 chance to win some random ship or camo's. Waste of time. Guess you can tell I'm struggling to maintain my fan status of the game.

Those in the top 100? We'll never know because they play so much they don't have time to visit the forums, or anywhere else for that matter. I think they share their time between playing and rehab for game addiction.

Meh, the top detection range is quite long, but on the flip side folks I would bet most of the people playing this game suffer from tunnel vision and have game reaction times far longer than 12 seconds. Guaranteed you'll eat a fair few bb's with those torps even at 15km, especially at tier 7. I still play my shima with the 20k corps and I'm always hitting ships with them....

In the interests of healthy debate, I'm not sure why people here are saying things like 'thank goodness it's not OP', and so on. This sounds like a poor justification to me, almost as a consolation to the fact its so unsuitable everywhere else. How do you justify this ship as fitting in the dd role when it has no torps, bad detection, can't really operate as most other dd's do? It's simply too lacking and I'm not sure people here can separate themselves from their subjective biases, preferences and justifications to look at it in a truly objective view. It simply does not fit into the same role as a dd in this game in terms of capping, spotting, etc as much as most others do. Do these ships not go through extended testing beforehand, do WG not have a holistic approach to how they see where a ship fits into the game, what's it's role will be, how most games actually play out, which they may learn if they play it enough? I just don't get it. The enemy dd caps, gets points ticking away early on for the enemy team putting massive pressure on my team while our Friesland sits back with cruisers doing nothing but firing rapidly at clouds doing hardly any damage. This same tactic seems to repeat in most games I've seen them in. It's far too weak to do anything early on and it's often early on that can make or break a game. No, I've still not played a single game where a Friesland has impressed me, not s single one. I am trying hard to see its benefits though, but the honest truth is its situational, very situational. I'm not sure many people will play ships that are inherently designed to be victims. -
It's definitely not a good trade of time versus reward. It may be a rare camo as Crysantos kindly advises, , but it's a consumable which is highly, and I mean highly dependent on having a good game is it not? Your 10 hours can be gone in half an hour with not much to show for it. Time obviously means extremely little to WG?

Mid Autumn Festival: Earn 25,000 base XP in battles. Reward: 3x Asian Lantern camouflages 25 000 base xp for 3 Asian Lantern camo's? Have WG lost their freakin minds? Really? 25 000 base xp for 3 AL camo's? I'm sorry, but there is someone at WG who seriously over-values their signals and camo's. My goodness me WG, what is wrong with you? This is the best you can do? So after all that effort (and time) you get 3 measley little camo's which if you're lucky might see you capitalise on their value IF you get three worthwhile games as decided by the mm and a victory, otherwise basically nothing. WG are stooping to really new lows, this type of reward is worth almost zero...absolutely zero in my eyes and they pay someone to think up this trash? Because it is trash....VERY VERY disappointed in you WG. It's not grounded in reality. I'd love to meet the 'person' who approves this kind of stuff or who dreams it up in the first place. I'm pretty sure they're insanely ignorant, holy moly!
-
WG still haven't figured that part out yet......ssshhhhh.

Man, if it were only a few days ago I'd be keen to give it a go...ranked out since then cause I'm so damned skilled lucky!

I'll stop using 'bad' as an argument if you stop using it's 'fine' or 'good enough as a reward ship'? Does that sound fair to you? See, it doesn't really work out does it? This is where the different opinions come into play, you can't call it different opinions if we can't voice them? For me, the ship is rubbish. You like it? That's fine with me, it's your xp and an easy ship for me to kill and certainly no threat to me even when I'm playing some lower tier dd's. Didn't say I want it to overperform, I want it to perform, plain and simple and for me it doesn't from what I've witnessed. edit: Just charged one down in a bb. He sat in his smoke too scared to move, no torps to threaten me he just sat there shooting his pee shooters. I tanked and someone made him go 'boom' a few moments later. It's not a dd to me, lol, it's a dd / cruiser wannabe. Take care matey. -

How about NO, WG. Not nearly enough to interest me. Token reductions accompanied by superficial explanations come across as desperate. How about giving more and you'll surely receive more? How about being truly sincere for once in you lives? -
Friesland the Peculiar (wot? no torps!)
Shaka_D replied to Captain_Breeze's topic in General Discussion
The problem is she is a dd and the gameplay style you suggest is anything but that of a dd. So while the enemy team has a 'proper' dd capping, torping, etc your friesland will be sitting with the other bigger ships waiting for the chance to fight. It's not overly fast, still highly vulnerable to radar as others are, detection not great, and zero torps. She certainly is not a cap contester imho, not at all. I mentioned before seeing a tier 7 french dd almost obliterate a friesland in a 1v1 gun fight , both players similary skilled. Also, AA is a pink elephant. We go to all this trouble speccing out ships and captains for AA for games where there are normally only a single enemy cv present. Clan wars yes, but everything else? Why? Nope, not convinced at all from what I've seen in game and elsewhere. -

Any reward ship should be hard to master? That's a really odd way of looking at things, why should it be harder to play? Why should more experienced players have to work harder to make bad ships work for them, there's no fun in that at all, surely? I now seen far too many games where the Friesland fails terribly, and not many where it succeed as much. If we're going to judge ships as good because in rare situations they work well then I think we're missing out on being realistic. On paper the ship might apparently offer all that WG boasts it to offer, but in actual random gameplay where I've seen it, it's way too situational and as such is not reliable at all - it's doesn't fit the meta, it's stuck in an odd place and suits soloists rather than team players. There are those just trying to justify the expense of having bought it, but I reckon it won't be long until it stays in port like so many others. -
I broke into the hall of fame top 50% and got no tokens at all. 245 before and 245 after. Where are my 300 tokens?

The more I see it in game the more convinced I am it is worthless. Perhaps fun to play from an individual perspective but in terms of its contribution to the team effort I am seriously disappointed in it's offerings. I am trying to see the good side, the possible postives but I can't see any significant enough. One particular game a few minutes ago saw a Friesland player sitting back behind cruisers, moving a little, popping smoke and firing. No scouting, spotting, torping (because none), not even taking on an anti-dd role or harrassing the enemy. The enemy dd's had stealth, torps and controlled every cap while our Friesland was nothing but a dumbed down cruiser. So what WG have actively done is add a ship that is technically in its own class, not quite a cruiser, not quite a dd, but not good enough to be either. Nope, it's garbage and a waste of a ship slot on any team. Well done WG - you didn't think about this one either did you? ANother classic example of WG making decisions without thinking it through. -
Personally, I think with ranked sprint you could take just about any tier 6 and do well if you're even half skilled. It's not the same as full ranked and as such I couldn't take it seriously at all. Had a few times I seemed stuck in one place but tried another ship. For me it was the dunk / t61 / shino / dallas / le grasse / that did the trick. Man, even tried the aoba etc and it all worked ok. Games where I failed were because I failed as a player, not because of the ship. Skill levels are far lower in sprint?

That old 'daily container could be a super container' joke rears it's head again, lol.

They won't do this because of 'we tweak the drop rate every so often to manipulate hype'. Drop rates are incredibly bad. Many of my 'try your lucks' only yield two type 5 camo's.....it's a disgrace. WG have taken greed and spite to new levels. The effect hereof has somewhat resulted in me becoming disloyal to WG and I've actually advised a few people not to even try the game. One chap at work said he was thinking of playing a few games to see how the game has progressed and I actually convinced him otherwise, lol. Joined him on PUGB and COH2 instead. Perhaps when WG start showing a little forward facing loyalty toward vets and regulars then maybe I'll reciprocate but I'm not falling for their 'we're all entitled and ungrateful' discourses. #inbeforethe'itsallfree'hyperactivesrespond....

No offence, but none of these are 'fresh' at all. It's rather stale. This isn't going to foster any excitement for many people. Is the article just a space filler?

Yes, haven't played her, haven't purchased, doubt I will at all. Now watched a fair few games as spectator, etc with her being played - don't need to fire her guns to see the effect, didn't take me too long to reach a verdict based on my own impression and from similar reports others have said. Still, what remains is my own subjective view of it. I agree on picking an unfair fight versus a cruiser or BB, but when I've witnessed it struggle against lower tier dd's (now on a number of occasions since my last post), it's fairly easy to see its vulnerabilities and as such doesn't stand up to the pomp advertised by WG imho. Some of these guys have been pretty good players and they've struggled. Hopefully after a while the dust will settle and we'll see how she fairs in the long run, but so far she comes across underwhelming and not worth the 1mil free xp. Maybe some are trying to justify the expense after having bought it, maybe not, each to his own but I know how to beat her now and it's not that hard, especially in a lower tier gunboat, and the irony of it all is that's meant to be her strength. The fact you make her work for you is great, hope you get long service from her mate
