New Ship. Australian Bush Fire Appeal
Shaka_D replied to Rhineheart_Thor's topic in General Discussion
Anthropogenic climate change is a global phenomena with global impacts. Australia might have made some poor choices in terms of regional management practices and policies, but perhaps so too did organisations like the greens who tried to stop them from burning fire breaks, and as a former firefighter myself from South Africa with similar landscapes, fire breaks are crucial in arresting the spread of such fires. That said, if you live in a developed country yourself within europe / global north, then your own lifestyle choices (petrol, groceries, use of fossil fuels, mobile phones, etc etc) would certainly have contributed toward Australias problem, just as much as they did. There are many innocent people there too you know so your narrow-minded attitude is not great. It takes effort from the whole world to fix the whole world. -
How to spend 1,000,000 fxp; Need some advice.
Shaka_D replied to Migantium_Mashum's topic in General Discussion
I just reached 2 million free xp and still not really keen to buy the Friesland. My dd's need to have torps. Torps form a major part of my gameplay style in DD's, -
Those are big numbers for sure, but I wonder how they'd compare to the people who didn't sink money in to buying the PR in the end, and I wonder how many people who were incensed by the whole WG moneygrabbing PR fiasco thing have now changed their outlook toward WG, i.e. WG have damaged the relationship with some of their playerbase even more than before? Each time they do this, and so blatantly greedily, they hammer in another nail toward the end of that relationship. I've said it before, but I know of quite a few people who have left the game permanently because of WG one way or the other, not because of the game itself. This is the reality WG will have to face one day, that their own attitude toward their players and their greed which is growing constantly bolder will be their downfall. It only takes one bad review which gains popularity to put a lot of people off. They really should take a lesson from the international awakening being seen around the globe toward the actions and methods of many transnational corporations. But I suspect they care little for the consequences, only for the immediate satisifaction of filling their purse at the expense of so many people.

In terms of my own preferences, I don't play to 'grind' to tier 10 anymore - tier 10 must come naturally and slowly. We rush to get there but it offers nothing tangible for someone like me who seldom does any clan stuff and to be honest, my fun tier is 7 - so in this sense I tend to rely on mission sets, directives, steel and coal (when they have events), etc. when they're not so badly rewarded. Also: Daily missions for a few signals and coal - boring and low value, I never ever worry about these. Not worth mentioning further. Where the grind gets to me is when WG implement time-limited stuff that you either pay for or see slip away. The PR event should have been a long-term mission like they do in WoT. Perhaps, if you want the ship earlier, pay, but if you don't mind the long grind process (with no time cap) then you can still get it for 'free' because you've put in the time, which would be acceptable given we support WG by playing, they reward our commitment and time by offering long term rewards like a PR project. What I find hilarious is how low WG values our time versus the overly high value they place in things like signals, flags, camos - these are far too high, they are not rewards especially when they're so easily blown in a game with bad rng and matchmaking through no fault of your own - your reward gets taken away from you. WG have slipped up badly here, they're trying to argue high prices for low value material and forcing it on us. I also find it incredulous that WG doesn't have a rolling scheme to reward long term supporters of the game - I think they have failed to evolved this part of their strategy toward looking after players like they're a valuable commodity...something they just don't do. WG are one hit wonders, offering a reward or two once a year for their anniversary, etc, but the rest of the year sees players all treated the same, new and veterans alike. In this sense I think WG fail completely.

Santa's Containers: A Time of Gifts and Gifting!
Shaka_D replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Dangit, and now the premium shop is back to its boring old self with nothing exciting on offer....what a dreary end to the holiday. -
Just a thought: I'd like WG to change the way they advertise the article to something more transparent and truthful - this way they cannot be accused of creating hype and preying on vulnerabilities - because to follow Twitch, link accounts and watch Twitch as much as some do (and even I've started which I never said I would) is rather all inequitable, with WG benefitting far more from the deal in terms of popularity, etc compared to the extremely low value of the containers themselves. I'd rather have regular twitch containers be a little more rare, but with more vauable items inside as standard, not a chance within a chance within a chance, slashing the odds to basically never getting anything. In this sense, WG are dirty little cheats conning the playerbase and creating fake news and hype around distant, near impossible odds. The new article title should read: Win Exeter (although extremely unlikely) - Twitch Drops in 0.9.0 All we want is a little truth and honesty, and a little integrity. We're players and sometimes overly needy, but we're not stupid. Some are old, wise and fairly well educated (me excluded).

Agree wholeheartedly, the company itself lately appears quite toxic with a really backward, almost dictactorial mentality. Decision making not the best, greed becoming more and more evident along with a really patronising treatment of the playerbase, communication really shady, excuses ever more shady, infiltration of the forums ever more shady than that. My love of ships must be that big because we're still here but for how long?

The last time we had similar event like current "British Cruisers" we had nice poll regarding numbered chance of getting ship in advance via random boxes...
Shaka_D replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Based only on your feedbck this is highly premature assumption. For me they aren't - not got a ship yet. -
Its nice being part of the community in a game, it's not nice when the devs treats everything you say or complain about as being ungrateful for their free stuff....or simply ignore feedback and implement the stuff noone wants. There is a theme common with a certain old regime evident in their management strategy, one of 'we're going to do what we want to do whether people like it or not'.
-
So you basically fell for WG's trick hook line and sinker.....?

wrong ship purchased by another family member
Shaka_D replied to Earthglade's topic in General Discussion
'a family member' eh? Have you thought about not drinking so much next time? Or perhaps even just being honest and saying 'look, i don't like the hindi, can i reverse a choice I made?' - no-one here will shoot you about it. We're all friends in these parts. Relax matey, just kidding. -

Would you call that high first chance a clever 'hook' by WG to help foster a sense of hype, possibly leading to people trying and trying again for the next ship? -
I've learned a lesson from this post and from the OP, a personal reflection on how intolerant and prejudicial I can be and am. We play this game and so quickly judge people in our team or the opposite team as noobs, useless, bots, and Puerto Rico buyers (last part has to become a new distinction - hehe) - we do this when we perceive them to not be playing as we do, not to our standard, have more money than us, or are still alive even though we are dead. Yes, some people are these things and more, but how do we know the guy sitting on the other side somewhere hasn't got cancer or a disability. And no, I'm not saying people with disabilities or cancer etc play badly, it's simply a reference to prejudice I am making. What do we really hope to change by raging or wishing someone cancer or to die from Aids or for their parents and family to be killed (I can rage and swear but I never do these other things - it's a line too bad to cross) Even so, I made a choice a few days ago to try be far more tolerant, patient and kind after throwing a hissy fit at a car in front of me who stopped at a green light and drove through an intersection when it turned red. I was in a hurry. So thanks OP and SEN_SEN for reminding us how lucky we are and to perhaps calm down and consider the possibilities. When my current chat ban is over, whatever chatban I get after this won't be deserved (not all are, but hey, sometimes I deserve it) . Cheers!

I respect your view Carroda, but not the fact you supported WG by buying the boosters, etc etc. Lots of folk will no doubt neg rep me over this, but WG played a dirty game, beyond anything nice and their tactic was nothing short of exploitative and cold. With you paying for the PR you endorsed their strategy and they'll just do it again. For this I will not congratulate you, you deserve no pat on the back for achieving what most wont be able to without paying. People who paid for the PR did nothing short of satisfy an instant need, beyond common sense. Though they'll likely deny it and justify it all away on some silly reason that they think makes sense to them, they're the very reason why unscrupulous practices by companies continue to exist so you can't really wish for anything when you yourself are likely the cause of things like this? Your last paragraph is incredulous, you're hoping they don't do something you helped endorse. The bitter irony.

Unless WG make the maps a hell of a lot smaller, the firing ranges for the t7 and t8 ships are woefully pathetic, especially when you'll be facing off against t9's and 10's most of the time - Not sure how I figure WG's dodgy rationale these days....lets give them large calibre weaponary, but reduce their firing range so they only get chance to use it once before dying. Utter genius WG. Concealment ranges are relatively unreliable in my view, ships are spotted by planes, etc etc, so unless you have perpetual smoke it seems ridiculous.

New Year Gifts and Rewards: Your One-Stop Guide
Shaka_D replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Fir tree camos are the worst. I hate them, they look terrible, hideous colour scheme. Creator of these things should be perma-inked in the colours and made to walk around everywhere..he / she'll soon wake up and realise what I'm on about. -
New Year Gifts and Rewards: Your One-Stop Guide

So you can grind, now go back to school and learn about punctuation. -
They don't because the drop chances are so possibly pathetically low most people wont buy any and they probably tweak them so often to control the hype they'd get caught out.
-
This is typical of them of late, they actually wasted some persons time and now want to waste our patience with them with daily shipments that are so badly underwhelming it beggars belief. WG wake up, honestly man, what the hell is wrong with you lately? Those daily shipments are basically worthless and don't even start on the free BS, you're meant to foster continued interest in your game, not bore us death or mock our intelligence.
-
The first line scared me off: Their guns can cause significant damage per salvo, but have a relatively short firing range and arching shell trajectory. Smells very off to me, so in a cruiser, a squishy cruiser we have to get ultra close to make a difference.....so we have to overcome being spotting by planes. dd's and everything else, get within firing range and actually last long enough to hit something? What are the firing ranges? And already the holiday, greedy PR money grab is finsihed and we're force-fed more of this bloody random chances garbage?
-
@OP You basically just wasted your life - and gave WG the perfect excuse to continue these types of unhealthy grinds. Shame on you. I have no sympathy for any damage you've self-inflicted from this.

[Poll]: How many Directives (0-7) will you be able to finish in WoWs v0.8.11 (Christmas / New Year) ?
Shaka_D replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Yes, you may be right. I did come across rather callously by generalising way too much. It was a quick-fire post made without thinking - rather naughty of me. Although, the feeling of accomplishment you mention could also be related to a compulsion or addiction, but not always as you say. The sad part is there is no official recognition for being in top position, this type of achievement is incredibly shallow and so transient it does make you wonder about the mental health of anyone trying to chase it, but then again as I've mentioned in a few other posts, it all comes down to how we value something, all rather subjective.- 83 replies
