German Containers: Really Wargaming?
Shaka_D replied to The_Angry_Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Drop rate seems pretty good. Too good to be true perhaps? -
Agree. Subs can be good for the game, and while this is totally subjective they are fun to play. However, they still need work. Even a sub lover like me still disagrees with the current homing torp mechanic - there is simply not enough of a counter for it in the game and to say say players need to simply learn to dodge is a myth. Seeing 5 or so torps coming and homing in on your bb is not fun for the bb, nor is it fun for a dd to have a sub pop up in front of them at point blank range and fire torps. This all happens in the middle of a battle with other ships firing at you, so dodging in itself can be detrimental to your survivability in the game. Using the valuable damcon to deactivate pings is also silly. Now these seem like fairly obvious problems with easy fixes, well within WG's agency, so the only conclusion I can come to in WG are not really playing their own game as much, or perhaps they're not invested in the player side as much as we'd like or they would see why a lot of people are complaining. As I said, I like subs and will play them, but they need tweaking.

German Containers: Really Wargaming?
Shaka_D replied to The_Angry_Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Of course, overall I got 12 containers. From those I got three ships: The Weimer first, then after a few more containers got the Immelman, and then randomly purchased one container got the Brandenberg. 3 ships from 12 containers. Not all have been this lucky of course, but I think it was quite good value - but that's obviously quite personal. Getting the 100% cashback coupon as part of our birthday bonus helps hugely for these kinds of things...I purchased 12500k gold and got 100% cashback. Ultimately, you could argue these three ships cost me 12500 dubs (plus a whole lot of camos, etc inbetween). -

I was around 10k coal away from getting the immelman, she was my next coal ship. Opened a container and got the immelman. Also got the Brandenberg from another after opening a few more. Definitely can't complain about the drop rate or my luck in this at least. -
Does anyone else find the timings of certain events quite frustrating when their timings clash, and in this sense making you choose between one or the other, but not quite both? Feels like lost opportunity here. For me, I'd like to play on the test server to earn a few community tokens, but also want to compete for the coal in brawl, but the two are mutually exclusive because the timings mostly clash and are on different servers - difficult when you have limited play time too. I suppose the same can be said of, as someone mentioned in a previous post, where brawls also don't count towards personal objectives? I don't know, maybe these are first world problems!

May I ask why those that say they have left the game are still on the forums? No disrespect or sarcasm here, simply wondering whether you're still holding on to hope things will change for the better in your view - something that might entice you back? Miracles can happen

Got the tier 7 long long ago, is this all still for the same tier 7 container originally?

Better also check your paypal account to make sure there hasn't been any suspect activity on it. What offer are you referring to here OP, so we all know.

Not playing bb's or dd's in brawl, I'm playing the anchorage mostly and winning most of my games (towards end of 5th mission now). Anchorage has smoke and torps and given the relatively close quarters fighting that takes place it can get stuck in...have taken out a fair number of bb's and dd's with her - she seems to shrug off a lot of damage, unless properly citadelled. Mainz is also an extremely viable option for cruisers from what I've seen. Pick a ship you can get up close with, with torps preferably. Smoke is less of an option with so much hydro about.

How WG managed to shoot their own feet
Shaka_D replied to Grumpy_Shark's topic in General Discussion
One of the things I really enoy about this game is it's quite easy for an average player in a lower tier ship to take out a worse player in a much higher tier ship with standard ammo....unlike in WoT where you were forced to load expensive premium ammo, which even then was not a certainty much of the time - and everyone seemed to have premium ammo loaded and fired it almost exclusively, whereas I could never afford to play it as much. So, I'm not even remotely afraid of superships, although still have to figure out how to best defend against and / or defeat subs - this is a totally new dynamic we have to learn to contend with. Maybe the super ships will be too tempting a target for subs and leave others alone, who knows - could be a good thing? -

Can you imagine a fail division of tier 7 / 8 being uptiered into a S-ship game....ooohhhh! -
Developer Bulletin for Update 0.10.10
Shaka_D replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Erm, a little apprehensive on the inclusion of superships in ranked. We've still got to figure out properly how subs will fit into the game and if it will work, so to add more so soon almost feels like the game is undergoing a paradigm shift. Wonder what the vision is here? On the other hand, I have to admit the visuals do look brilliant. I had long since begun to wonder when we'd receive a graphics overhaul. Looking forward to this part of it. -
Passive sonar captain skill or module for DD's and cruisers
Shaka_D replied to Mad_Dog_Dante's topic in General Discussion
As a dedicated skill this could level the playing field further and possibly partially appease some of those really unhappy with the current status quo. I'd even go as far to suggest the skill be a low level one for one or two skill points rather have captains try decide between this and more valuable higher level captain skills. Good idea.- 47 replies

Subs and the fallacy of "diverse" gameplay/mechanics
Shaka_D replied to arttuperkunas's topic in General Discussion
Are you saying that subs have only therefore been introduced to attract more players, i.e. those who ordinarily would not play the game? As much as this confession will attract neg reppers, I like subs and plan to play them and I'm not new. I like the increased diversity they offer - and this is purely subjective based on my own preferences. Am I alone, no. Obviously, WG are exploring new revenue streams, and if they've introduced subs against popular opinion, then I cannot see this as being good for them. If the forums are anything to go by then subs are incredibly and overwhelmingly unpopular, and if the threats to leave the game (by forumites) are anything to go by and representative of popular opinion, then there is about to be an exodus of players from the game. Time will tell. Either way, while diversity is great for the game, diversity is not always a good thing if they can't get the balance right. Most people here don't trust that WG can. Because I like subs, I'm willing to give WG a chance. Because others don't like subs, etc and / or don't trust WG, they're not willing to tolerate this. -
So what, if anything has WG done that’s good ?.
Shaka_D replied to MadBadDave's topic in General Discussion
It's a case of glass half full or galss half empty I reckon, haha. There are numerous things I think adversely affect the quality of the game, however, the overall experience is still overwhelmingly enjoyable for me. When it changes I'll leave. Ultimately though, anyone still playing the game is supporting WG, whether they argue otherwise or not. Really is that simple. -
My experience after 122 battles in submarines
Shaka_D replied to goodman528's topic in General Discussion
I'm not getting into an ego battle with you Europizza. Those survey results are quite informative, though I again question their integrity, even if they had showed a more postive outlook towards subs. if subs are that unpopular, then I cannot imagine WG keeping them in, especially if player numbers drop. Maybe WG have their numbers wrong because a lot more people tried them out in testing, etc...who knows. Only time will tell on this and how popular subs are in gameplay, hence my own reluctance on a verdict yet. You cannot expect to have your own opinion reflected back at you. I still think people threatening to leave are being childish and unconstructive...if unhappy, just leave, and I do think you are blindly supporting those endorsing your own view, irrespective of their own methods or approaches. Please don't assume I'm derailing anything. There is no rule that prohibits me from offering an opinion, even here. There's currently a dreadful fog lying over the forums where people in support of subs are labelled shills, are neg repped en masse, etc. I find the OP's findings quite interesting, and admire him for his bravery in stepping foot into a forum awash with hate for subs and loathing for anyone in support thereof. -

Shaka_D replied to MadBadDave's topic in General Discussion
The very fact that so many of us complainers are still about and playing their game says a lot ot me. Despite the fact their methods are sometimes questionable, they're obviously still doing a lot right, arguably more right than wrong. -
Why not just pull the game and be done with it ?
Shaka_D replied to MightyMac22's topic in General Discussion
I can appreciate how demotivating it feels, been there loads of times. There was a time I felt really negative about the game and toward WG, and I still feel numerous things needs fixing. However, I'm really trying to adopt a more positive mindset - sometimes things just don't work out the way we want them to. How can we honeslty expect WG to succeed in anything if we make it impossible for them to do so? Think of this too: You already sometimes have to face off against a team with radar, while yours has none. You may also have weak dd's on your team while the enemy has stronger dd's, or better players on one team versus lesser able players on another. Sometimes, even the rng is against you. Why then is it so bad that on occasion in brawl you face a team with a cv and yours has none? If it was every game, sure, but is it? -

Shaka_D replied to goodman528's topic in General Discussion
You're an incredibly brave person saying anything remotely positive about subs on the forums, and by positive I'm referring to your references to subs being underpowered compared to other classes. I've seen resistance to many things WG related, but not like this on the forums for a long time. Since many here were insisting there is overwhelming support against submarines I began asking around in the games I played over the weekend. I asked' You folks enjoying having subs in the game?' - just an honest neutral quetion - nothing preloaded, the answer was most always positive with one or two disagreeing here and there. It's all very unofficial, but no less official than numerous references to forum surveys and the like declaring most hated subs. Neither can be validated or verified as true and there will most definitely be bias poisoning the proverbial well beforehand.. With this said, I'm more interested than ever to see what an official survey would reveal with a great enough sample size. I have a feeling the overwhelming negativity here would be usurped by a more positive majority in the non-forumite population. Pure speculation of course, but I wonder how everyone here would feel if they realised they're potentially a minority? Would they then accept the inevitable? -

I'll respect your opinion on this, but only know I disagree. The proverbial line was crossed long before me, but that's a matter of perception now isnt it, athough you're trying to redirect it by reminding me not to act dubiously? There was no stone throwing, so employing sematics to infer harm was unilateral is ridiculous imho. I still feel that some behaviour has been seemingly childish. People want WG to listen, so they vent on the forums in less than helpful ways, with the likely result WG will NOT listen. I'm trying to help steer conversation to meaningful debate which might help the situation toward them actually listening. I still have hope here. I'm no saint, nor elected to do so, but we all add where we can to try help a situation. And yes, it's a forum, where all flavours of conversation are possible. Though I wonder who, in this whole affair, threw the first stone. Because it wasn't me. It's hypocrisy. Many here have literally blindly thrown rocks over this, citing far more than just subs, and the pebbles I've lobbed are somehow the ones that matter most? No offense, but its a laugh a second. I hope subs work out because I really like the idea. I sincerely hope WG finds a way to keep them in the game permanently. And that is that. Take care. This was my last on this. -

Shaka_D replied to PaxtonQuigly's topic in General Discussion
Personally, I don't think it's all confirmation bias, but it's a valid consideration. Ultimately though the truth can only be found in legitimate surveys or by WG declaring their figures (if trustworthy). I hear you on this though in terms of trying to preserve the game and wrt unfinished content. I'll see how I feel about it all after I play with and against them some more, but in concept I really like the idea of subs being in the game. They offer greater variety (personal preference). -

Shaka_D replied to PaxtonQuigly's topic in General Discussion
No doubt, but how much of the playerbase do these various forums represent. How many people go onto forums to voice positivity versus those that need an outlet - confimation bias leads them to similar threads where they feel they can voice their disgust at the idea and their views are mutually reinforced leading to false consensus. All the while, the happy majority are potentially playing the game not worried about the forums? Perhaps then, it's only the forum majorities that appear to intensely dislike subs...I have to also ask: how would it be economically viable for WG to implement something noone wants to or will play? Makes no sense. -

Shaka_D replied to PaxtonQuigly's topic in General Discussion
There is nothing WG-esque in my answer. I'm one of their most fierce and very vocal critics. To build on your analogy, I'm also sure there are rules against rollerskates in a marathon, whereas the rules for subs are still in their infancy. It's a game abaout naval warefare, I'm pretty much sure this could include subs, if done right. Not to say WG won't get it right, but maybe they can. It does look quite stunning in game when you're playing a sub, though the visuals are only a small part of it. And yes, I do not like homing torps as such, hence why I am still undecided. i see potential, but don't want to judge quite yet, otherwise I'm simply being prejudiced? -

Shaka_D replied to PaxtonQuigly's topic in General Discussion
Where exactly do subs come into this argument? Because so far it's all about WG to you, not subs and their potential in the game. Hate WG all you like, by all means, but please learn to separate overarching resentment from the subject at hand. And yes, I stick by my comments about reasons. I was being honest, but that doesn't mean I can't change my mind later on if I find the overall experience with subs for me is negative. I simply haven't played them enough. -

You asked, and this is a valid reason for me and possibly for others. And, lo and behold, I was being honest.
