Short term answer? If we believe that the MM is as simple as WG makes it out to be and includes no complicated algorithms manipulating your game 'difficulty'- Possibly because your win rate does not solely depend on your own actions most of the time. It's a team based game and therefore any result will have to include the actions or abilities of your team mates, which is 'controlled' by the MM, and we all know how imperfect it is. It ignores player skill completely (apparently) and does a best effort balance of the ships only. What I don't understand is that in order to be properly assessed in terms of skill we need an even base to start from, a level playing field. This would mean that both player skill and ship balance would have to be considered by the MM to set up this level ground. Not sure I understand why so many players here rely solely on WR as an indication of skill anyways, when there are so many factors negating it's accuracy and affecting the outcomes of a battle that are not in our control, RNG for one, MM for another. If it evens out over time is it truly random? Always confuses my simple mind because it's contradictory a lot of the time. If a F1 race driver is given a clapped out VW beetle and an average driver given a mint porche, and both are told to race a straight road from one town to another, chances are the average guy will win every time, no matter how good the driver of the beetle is. His VW will only go so fast. He'll therefore be judged as the loser because there were forces at work not in his control...his old car. Then throw in the rng will random breakdowns along the way and it may even the odds slightly giving the F1 driver a chance at winning more often, but not because of his skill as a driver. The point being it's not a contest of skill alone on a level playing field, different performing cars, rng, etc. Boring stuff really so is it really worht worrying about. I troll people about their win rate when they are nasty in game, a childish retaliation, but in reality I care so little for it and just want a fair chance at winning. With unfair line-ups the game loses it's fun. and I have just spoken such a load of trash....sleepy time.

What are the ships people are finding are helping them win games, is there a general consensus as to which are performing well?

I got mine eventually..it wouldn't work this morning but did this afternoon. Believe me though, I'm no favourite of wargaming. I always think of myself as one fo their greatest fans but also one of their biggest critics. It does seem odd as to there being no explanation why some got it and others didn't.

You're lucky. I've been stuck at the beginning of rank 12 for 3 days now. One back, one forward, etc. How is it I can maintain a wr of 56% in randoms yet can only muster a useless 49% in ranked. I'm about to give up. I'm only getting to play with rank 15 players predominantly, and rank 15 is a cespit full of pain at the moment for anyone trying to get through it. Given that there are no more irrevocable ranks after 12 I'm simply losing the will to live. I;ve had terrible losing streaks for 3 days, and while I know I can have a few off games....I've never had 3 off days before. Random is random I suppose.

rank 12, for two days now, and getting more angry by the minute.

Well, a nights gaming comes to an end and I'll still at the beginning of rank 12. The pool of players I draw on for the teams I get put in are all from rank 15...so it seems rank 15 is now populated mostly with the braindead masses who cannot be pushed back to the begInning. So for me there is no getting out of rank 12 unless I actually get to play with other people who have managed to get further than 15. No offense to anyone here of course, you represent a very small portion of the playerbase, but the bulk of 15'ites are so bad it's not funny. All the salmon have swum upsteam and now stuck in the 15 pool and since I get to play with most of them due to the mm I'm stuck in the 12 pool...forever. That's two days now in 12 with a taste of 11 yesterday and it disappeared in a flash of noobiness. 12 is my max so no going forward. I'm now toying with quitting ranked since there's no further incentive. I'm not playing hard just to be pushed back by so many people who have no intention of wanting to contribute. I work hard to play for the team, but most seem to be playing ranked as they play randoms - they only reason they're here are for the rewards. Perhaps there should be no rewards until rank 10, which may result in the neanderthals quitting before long.

Dropped from rank 11 to the beginning of rank 12....[edited]. And what the hell is the MM doing giving the enemy team 2 bb's and 3 dd's and my team 1 bb and 2 dd's???? Is it really a ranked [edited] battle if the MM cannot even give a reasonably balanced team and which idiot at the 'company' decided to put the spawn points square in the middle so a team HAS to have a dd to get there???? And then the MM gives the one team more dd's? Totally belrusian logic...let's give some players more opportunity to get to rank 1 than others by rolling the dice and saying screw it to skill. I was excited about ranked this season but I reckon after tonight if I cannot progress I'm going to have to say [edited]it - I'll be out. I cannot sit at rank 12 for the rest of the [edited]month[edited] and then have to contend with a matchmaker that does [edited]ing nothing good.

I'm such a freakin child! @OP: Other than this, some folks have given really good advice here, mm doesn't put you on the losing team as some have said. Some teams are bad, sometimes your luck runs out for a while, but perhaps you should division with a few reasonably good folk to see if you're doing anything wrong and to feed off their experience. Visit the forumites channel in game, there will always be a few locals keen to division.

Ranked battles are fun for me, but there i so much luck involved in who you get in your team that even with a little skill it's sometimes impossible to carry games. I played rank 12 all day yesterday, and I mean all day and went back and forth until the very last game last night saw me break into rank 11. I am now VERY VERY scared to press battle because the way the teams are set up by the mm you could easily be playing with the majority of rank 14 and 15 on your team while the enemy could have 11's and 12's, notwithstanding the odd ship imbalances.....especially when one team has more dd's. Due to the cap locations on many of the maps the team with the most dd's has a much better advantage since anything heavier moving into a cap zone is toast. I even had a couple of games yesterday where our team had no dd's and the enemy had 2...instant losses for us since we were spotted, they were able to cap and hence won. When I press battle tonight (after Game of Thrones) I know I'll most likely be visiting familiar faces back in rank 12. In a sense I really wish they'd give us one or two more irrevocable ranks, perhaps at rank 10 or so, because the haul from 12 to 1 is as good as impossible unless you;re extremely extremely lucky. From what I've seen so far it's not mostly about skill...skill features in the games but luck plays the largest part on how you progress. Yes, I do realise I've contradicted myself in places, but my minds a mess from yesterdays gaming!

Not one atlanta player in all my ranked games so far has featured and done anything useless. Not one, otherwise I'd not be saying this out of fairness to those that did well. They've died too fast without anything. That said, you cannot afford 'situational' ships in ranked battles.

I keep getting games where most of my team mates are in rank 15 or 14, I'm in rank 12 - stuck there all day - and the enemy teams have almost always had players in rank 12 and 13 with one or two in rank 15. One or two games like this are ok, but ffs, all f'ing day to get unlucky mm? The games have been disasterous, quick and landslides. WTF is going on here? Edit: And if I see another damn atlanta player or two as I've had in teams all day I'm going to literally *&$% myself. Edit: 8 torp hits to a colorado from close up - all 8 hit him, all detonated, he was still alive after...no repair pressed - who needs to press 'battle' when the rng does that to you?

Well, I didn't notice it initially until I accidentally saw it while looking at the cost of an udaloi. In that very moment I purchased my tier 9 russion dd....saved 2 mill credits. Be nice if they mentioned it though because many players plan their way forward - knowing ahead of time helps us make our decisions. I would have been very sad if I'd spent those credits on something else and then only noticed the discount.

What's to stop player taking a lower tier dd, capping and torping..don't lower tier vessels earn more xp for the battle, therefore more inclined to be rated higher after game?

What load out do you prefer in the saipan? I've gone for the 3 fighter 1 bomber setup and have managed to do ok in it. The 4 fighters in each squad can quite comfortably lock down the enemy cv squads and the 9 bombers in my squad can wreck a dd instantly.

Stop using mods that reveal team win chances...your big mistake is you demotivate yourself before the battle begins, and you next mistake is you create a new thread when there is one already, and your next mistake hereafter is you won't probably take this advice.

I agree, three games in a row I managed to land a team that had no coordination, despite one or two of us trying to make a good go of the game. The rest literally yolo'ed. As a result I got top place all three games and wasn't punished.
