My point is perception. I feel people these days are very much "Glass 1/2 empty types". They never see a positive in a situation and only see failure. Because it's more difficult or requires a change in behavior. I am an ex army dude myself so I do not understand sympathy. I was always told that if I wanted it I could find it in the dictionary "between sh!t and syphilis"

Look at my recent stats. I've had a nightmare run

Uptiering is a problem? Nonsense! Uptiering is an OPPORTUNITY! an opportunity to do more damage. As a manly man, I welcome up tiered battles and think of all the lots and lots of nice damage I can do. TL;DR - HTFU or MTFU or L2P etc
-
Glad to see the manliness continues. I might get internets in my house today (whoo hoo!!!) however the wife still has a long list of jobs for me to complete so game time may not happen for my input into this thread for a little bit. That, and I will be a little rusty at the helm for a few games (read - I will be terribad)

My knowledge of this subject is that the flag reduces your detonation chance to something like 0.1% or 0.01%. In other words, so small it's negligible. I have a feeling that this might have something to do with the risk of negative numbers. A while ago, when playing eve online, someone figured out that you can debuff a stat so hard that it turns it into a negative number. This had the effect of creating a 100% chance / stat. The code just didn't know how to deal with it. This allowed ships to fire their weapons that would normally have only 10km of range out to 249km (249km range was a hard stop on range - if this hard stop wasn't there it could of potentially been further). They also received perfect accuracy from this debuff too which meant they dealt perfect damage at impossible ranges. All because the debuffs caused negative numbers. Leaving the detonation chance at 0.01% might be a safety measure in preventing an unwanted 100% chance being generated by mistake.

observation balloons onboard low-tier capital ships

Personally, I'd prefer to see the max viewing range of ships reduced and then people would have to use modules and skills to max it out again. Bit like in WoT's. This is probably a really unpopular opinion though and I expect I'm about to get flamed like Darwin did when he published "The Origin...." To be fair, most artillery is fired at targets BVR (beyond visual range) and is then coordinated by spotters (forward controllers). Air strike are mostly done this way too as fast air can't really see targets on the ground perfectly and FAC's (Forward Air Controllers) would guide the rounds fired onto the targets vocally via radio. It is then feasible that ships could do this with each other. There are plenty of people on board.

POINTLESS CRUISERS: major problems and possible solutions
Spuggy replied to Kaput_Mundi's topic in Cruisers
I don't really have a problem with cruisers. They just are very unforgiving. DD's can run and stealth up easily. BB's can take the hits. Once you're out of position and in trouble you're very unlikely to survive in a CA/CL. Not sure how to make cruiser play better but I don't think cruisers are broken at all. They are just very hard to play. BB's are super easy to play. Especially German BB's. Those things have very few vulnerabilities and weaknesses. -
One on One - Battleship vs Cruiser
Spuggy replied to Sterling_Archer_UK's topic in General Discussion
I like to charge down BB's when I'm in a cruiser. Especially one on one. The cruiser's objective is to close to within torpedo range (if they have them) and ensure a full spread hits and destroys the BB. Whilst "on the charge" the CA will try to avoid incoming high caliber AP rounds by carrying out a FOXTROT LIMA ROMEO maneuver. The mechanics of over match are a [edited]but I can get shells fired from a Kongo to bounce off a Svietlana whilst doing this and most of the volley misses. The BB's objective is to avoid being put into a compromised position. This is where the CA/CL has managed to get to within 4km and you are broadside to each other. The cruiser when in this position has the advantage, especially when armed with torpedoes as you probably won't be able to torpedobeat around them. Even CA's who aren't armed with torpedoes can do extreme damage to you at this range as their RoF is much higher and they can penetrate with their 8" AP rounds very well. So a BB will want to maintain a safe engagement range which maximises their ability to engage the Cruiser. I'd say this is approx 6km-8km. A BB armed with torps may be able to be more aggressive but on the whole, you should tactically withdraw and keep the CA at a spot you can shoot him effectively. It's also wise to "ripple" fire your guns instead of full salvo's. This allows you to make aiming adjustments between shots and keep a constant barrage of shells going at the enemy. It can also force the cruiser to assume you don't have any guns ready to fire and they may present themselves as a target prematurely -

Do you notice a change in playing style with the new IJN DDs?
Spuggy replied to tenacious_torps's topic in General Discussion
The fully upgraded Hatsuharu is a monster. It is exceptional. I play her like a Tier 6 Kamikaze R with torp acceleration skill on. This gives me fairly fast 8km torps and I duck and dive around in the 6.5km - 7km area torpedoing everything I see. I rarely have to drop smoke and I can carry a battle easily in her. Until fully upgraded though she is somewhat a difficult beast. Those short range torps have you hugging your waifu for dear life to pop out and ambush someone in the hope you don't die trying. I wouldn't call this style of game play fun and it is extremely different from the play style you adapt to after the upgrades. This is what doesn't really feel "right". This sudden change within a ship after upgrading. It's not really improving the ship it's just changing the tactics drastically. I wish I had more time to play her but I'm hammering my tier 8's right now trying to finish the ARP missions just for lols -
I guess I fascinate you then Danae is a great ship. Excellent at area denial. Hide behind an island spamming your SAP at the targets whilst daring them to attack you cause they know you will torp them. Emerald has a massive leap in utility with the addition of smoke and allows you to shoot from smoke easily. The RN CL's are all about planning ahead and keeping to a slightly reserved game play style which can then very quickly become ultra aggressive. I like it. ........ wanna know something really weird? I think the Krasny Krym is awesome and the Sveitlana is the best tier 4 cruiser in the game.
-
I don't understand the hate for the tier 3-5 RN CL's. I actually like them a lot. Including the Emerald which I think is really really good. Different strokes for different folks I guess but the low tier RN CL line doesn't suck. They are in fact very very good.

Hue hue hue. I love that guy. He seems to be taking a lot of breaks lately though. He must be Christmas shopping. You are stealing my thunder though Tuccy. I was the first guy to mention him
-
Minekaze was a terrible ship anyway. Worst performing DD in the game. Glad they have now fixed it.
-
Am I some kind of special snowflake who likes the low tier RN CL's? I've kept my tiers 3-5 whilst working on Leander too. I enjoy playing them. I get good results consistently and do have fun.

Not sure if the OP has a Warspite or not but I do. When playing the Warspite this is pretty much how every single one of my games feels. Am I complaining? Nope, because I just delete what is causing me to burn like the fires of hell or I move away from it. Positioning is everything and just because you have a couple of ships with you means nothing. If the enemy has better positioning than you then you're out of position.
