looks balanced to me...hardly any difference to a regular captain

Just saw Siegfried (T9 German Supercruiser) on Live Server?
Zieten replied to Sunleader's topic in General Discussion
that match at 58:30 really illustrates why i think this ship won't work. cruisers need to be played at mid/long-range (at least when you're as vulnerable as this ship) and with that pityful HE and laughable DPM it won't work. Sure you will blap a unsuspecting cruisers every now and then, but the other supercruisers can do that as well while having decent HE. -
that camo-scheme itself, but the white/blue-one looks a hell lot better than that greenish/pink-one
-
that's some gorgeous camo, wish they sold it again

Saw a few matches of it on a stream - does not look too promising tbh. The guns are pretty accurate, but that's about it. The HE damage is pityful, the turtleback does not really help against any serious caliber and the 90(?)mm armor strip along the midsection ensures that it eats a ton of full pens. I guess it's supposed to be a brawler but does not have the armor-layout for that job. -
Disclaimer: I'm not a great DD player (ship class with my worst win ratio), so..take it with a grain of salt RN are pretty forgiving ships bc of their many smokes and self-hydro (and heal in the later tiers). You just need to get used to the very short smoke durations. I got the T5(?) RN DD from that PEF-Mission (at least i think that i got it there) and am now at the Jutland - but those ships were all pretty damn good. I would actually not recommend the German DD line bc you always have to fight against their Concealment-disadvantage. Also they're pretty big, thicc and rather clumsy ships. I'm not saying they're bad, just not exactly beginner-friendly. It's been a while since i last played the USN DDs, but they're great allrounders. You just need to accept the fact that you only get torps with decent range at T7 or 8, so in the midtiers you're first and foremost a gunboat with shellarcs that take a while to get used to. US smokes are pretty awesome though. Most has already been said about the IJN lines. I don't think the Shima-line is in a very good spot right now, the Harugumo-line is tons of fun though (once you hit the Akizuki with a decent captain). Again, I'm only a mediocre player but if i had to suggest a DD line to a DD starter i guess i'd suggest the RN line. The US line has more teamplay--potential with their long smokes, but teamplay is kinda sketchy nowadays isnt it? :D

Upcoming Random bundles: Why grind when you can buy?
Zieten replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I'm guessing it will be some premium ship. Still not a fan of this, but let's be real - there's so many ppl out there in the high tiers which should not be there in the first place, it won't make much of a difference anyway. -
Summer sale has begun - but this time it has offer I have never seen before!
Zieten replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
It's a weird deal overall. I guess if you don't have the Alabama already and are interested in a variety of premium ships it's decent value for money. Especially the CVs are rather expensive in the store so IF you get Alabama+2 premium CVs, you get a discount of about 40%. If you hit 2 DDs..well...the deal is more around the 20-25% discount. With all the uncertainty involved i might have thought about it if i had gotten the full dubloon value of the Alabama (bc having dubloons never hurts). They didn't even spice it up by adding ships that you normally can't buy in the store. -
I'll throw in the RN DDs. Very balanced ships which got good camo, hard-hitting (though rather slow reloading) torps, good guns & a bunch of useful consumables. Also, and that may be important in the current meta, you get a lot of short duration smokes which come in really handy if the CV has a hard-on for you.

Powercreep of older ships (for example German BB "Scharnhorst") and possible ways to remedy it...
Zieten replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
i think we need to seperate 2 things in this thread: - the viability of the Scharnhorst - the argument that the Sinop is OP for T7 (which, in my oppinion, it absolutely is) The Scharnhorst is an odd duck for me. I don't really enjoy playing it, i REALLY hate the guns and i'm cursing the ship all game long - but it does produce pretty decent results. TBH i liked the Gneisenau better though, bc i really don't like low-caliber guns (with that horrible dispersion) on a BB. Gneisenau is a shotgun as well, but if it hits it can actually citadel BBs. -
You're right, i always confuse those 2. I think it's very strong. Lots of HP, 6.1km concealment on that Tier is pretty good as well & the Hydro helps a lot in contesting caps. It's not as bad as a Belfast or Sinop though, i agree on that. Without premiums allowed, we would probably see a metric crap ton of Fijis and Sinops - still less of a problem than a properly played Belfast.
-
T10 works kinda different though - at least for me :D I can keep a 50+WR at all tiers (or almost..i think my T6 WR is also pretty crap), but at T10 i'm in the low 40s. I guess it's got to do with the fact that you need to carry your team harder in that Tier and i fail to do that.

i think every game which is structured the way WoWs (and WoT for that matter) is, is susceptible to some sort of powercreep. you kinda have to keep the players interested in new lines (and new premiums). if the new lines are worse than the old ones, many ppl would say "why bother"? that being said, i don't think WoWs is a habitual offender concerning powercreep.

If you like the Shchors you will like the Chapaev. The radar adds some utility but you're still VERY fragile.

[PSA] Naval Training Center rewards will be reworked from scratch

Good decision -
ST: Inertia Fuse for HE shells and plating changes
Zieten replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
these changes could actually be a lot more detrimental to the gameplay than NTC, but everyone is focussing their fury on the latter. i wonder if that was the plan all along -
ST, Naval Training Center, free Premium Consumables and improvement of the matchmaker.
Zieten replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
flamu said in his stream today that he liked the idea of NTC IF it does not grant gameplay-performance-enhancing buffs. so the same mechanics (i.e. regrinding lines) for some special camo or other purely cosmetical loot or economical buffs would be fine for him. and i agree on that. i probably won't ever grind a line again but as those rewards are not gameplay-performance-enhancing ones i'd be totally fine if they implemented such a mechanic. if people really want some shiny skin or some +credits/steel/coal on their upgraded ships, let them grind for that. better than no options to spend time (and free exp/credits/etc) on for the veterans. -
Yeah, it really is some amazing stuff they're doing right now. Maybe 2 different groups inside the WoWs team did not know what each other was doing and now this is happening. But posting about making low/mid-level-gameplay more appealing and just hours later selling a bundle which skips that gameplay is just hilarious.
-
"hey guys - we heard that you like to play the other 9 ships in a tech-tree more often and enjoy the mid-level gameplay - here's a booster which let's you start at T6 and doubles the speed in which you can do it "

Zieten replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
I'm still baffled that WG thinks that premium consumables for everyone will somehow magically close the gap between an upgraded and a non-upgraded ship. It's got NOTHING to do with the core issue of the NTC. Having an extra repair does not help you against better dispersion of an enemy ship, being able to repair 20 secs faster is totally unrelated to the fact that the enemy has 15% more HP total. The whole comparison with the snowflakes event is such a weird one. People played them because they got Coal/Steel. Well, if u could get Steel/Coal for playing T1 only - guess what ppl would do? That does not mean that people want T1-Gamemodes with T1-Ladders, T1-specific upgrades and T1 Legendary Camos. Ppl will just do what it takes to get some extra. Same with with the Rogue-Event atm. Nobody would play 500 games in it if he did not get the Benham for that. You would be surprised what stupid and mindnumbing things people do to get something they want. That does not mean that they enjoy the grindy part of it one bit. If you want people to play mid-tier ships, create gamemodes or leagues for them. Make events that will give people some special camos or other non-gameplay-performance-enhancing loot. Just don't kick the balance in the head even harder. I don't want to see a Stalingrad or Slava with even better dispersion. I don't think anyone wants that... -

was thinking something similiar. tried playing WoT again after a few years of self-imposed exile and..oh boy is WoWs a more convenient and polished game to play. WoT still has all the same old [edited] like massive exp-grinds to make the tank playable (tracks, turret, new gun - wanna burn some free exp?), insanely overpowered premium tanks, stingy economy and clunky crewtraining. I am so glad that WoWs is not like that but this announcement surely is a bad omen. This got such a huge amount of pitfalls. Just to name one: what will happen with Premium Ships? No upgrades? Upgrades for gold? These guys want to INCREASE their playernumbers (refer a friend etc) and then implement a mechanic which is only attractive to hardcore-players who got the time to grind..i really don't know what to say (except linking that video of the red-shirtguy asking about the out-of-season-april's fools...) They just massively botched the CV rework and are happily going for a double whammy... -
You are...buffing the Colbert?
-
yeah, on the other hand they don't think CV players can fly planes and steer their carrier at the same time or even use consumables...it's not really consistent, is it?

Zieten replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
- premium consumables as standard - good idea. - changing MM. needs to be seen but it can't get much worse than it's current state. the naval academy thing is a mindboggingly bad idea and i can't believe that WG is contemplating such a mechanic (i mean, we all know why but...). -
will need to see how that plays out ingame. looks better than 180° sectors though. one issue im seeing here is that it might be too much at once for some players (angling ship against enemy ships, getting your guns on target and looking at incoming planes - that's some multitasking)
