Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"

Well Zao does lots of damage but the win ratio isn't that great, because Zaos usually camp second line and only hunt battleships. That's why Des Moines' and Minotaur's win ratio are higher I suppose, because they're usually in the front line hunting DDs and other CA. They're good at area denial. I have no idea why Hindenburg is one of the worst, because I personally find it's one of the most solid all-round cruisers in the game. Decent speed and manouvrability, good guns, good AA, great armor, German hydro and great torps for yolorushes. The only thing it lacks is reliable AP damage, but that can be made up for by always switching to the most favorable target. -

I'm using Type 93 mod 3 torpedoes with TAE on PTS. Plenty of range, 72 knots and 24k damage. Using hit-and-run tactics and it's really easy to score damage because no one can evade a wall of 15 torps. Even if only one or two hit they deal massive damage. I don't know why everyone struggles with Shima so much. -

Maybe it simply activates the rocket mounts' anti air DPM for a short duration to simulate the rockets being fired after which they have to be reloaded, contrary to the continuous fire of regular AA. It could be the 'new weapon' they were talking about some weeks ago. In any case I'd say wait for further information before panicking. -

Are we sure this defensive AA consumable isn't a placeholder for some kind of AA rockets manual barrage consumable? -

All they needed is a slight buff to their AP. Perhaps a bit better concealment. The survivability of these ships is already excellent. -

Doubt it, they've never released new lines on the test server before. You'd have to wait till 6.5 PT to test French ships without grinding the line for real. -

If you truly play agressively in Iowa or Missouri you'll often get into spots where there's always that one guy on the enemy team who has your broadside, and sometimes you get ambushed by another battleship or you simply find yourself fighting multiple foes at different angles. And because of the ridiculous weakness you'll almost always eat 12-30k damage on such occasions. Even angling doesn't always work because at least in the Iowa (Missouri has better frontal citadel protection) you can even get citadelled under the turrets from ~45 degree angles. IMO everyone saying the ship is fine and saying whoever eats a load of citadels is a bad player is bragging. I run ~107k average damage on my Iowa (one of the highest on the server) and I frequently eat citadel hits that I would never get in other ships because of the ridiculous citadel placement. Anyone who says otherwise is either a camper, hasn't played enough battles yet or is being unrealistic. Despite the weak citadel/armor she still has enough redeming qualities to be a very good ship. Fixing the citadel might make it borderline OP but the main reason I want the citadel fix is not because I want her to become more powerful, but rather because it will make playing the Iowa so much less annoying. -
completed weekly mission. no gneisenau
Sander93 replied to mcintosh233's topic in General Discussion
Last time I played (I think Tuesday) it said the reward for these missions upon full completion was, besides the captain, a Gneisenau. Did they change it? -
How about HE always on angled BBs? Chosen ammunition type should depend on the situation. HE does plenty of damage to angled battleships and there's a big chance for fires.

Ships are fueled by hate gained from all the white flags and reversing jokes they had to suffer since 1940. -

Montana could really use a buff to be competitive with the GK and Yamato. It's not a bad ship, but it's not very special either. A citadel buff would put her on par with the others in the survivability department, and that would mean she can more effectively use her strength: 12 very accurate main guns at close to medium ranges. The Iowa is a good ship but the ridiculously vulnerable citadel means there isn't much room for agressive tactics or manoeuvring. The citadel buff would open up a lot more tactical options rather than make the ship OP, imo. -

Public test 6.4 patchnotes say nothing about promised the Iowa/Montana citadel correction. Does anyone know what happened to it? -
If noob BB players only camp to stay safe, tweaking the gun mechanics will not change anything in their behaviour. You contradict yourself. I don't care about long range engagements at all, as far as I'm concerned WG could implement my 'less damage - more accuracy' system for <16km and dramatically drop accuracy at longer ranges. DD's and perhaps cruisers could be tweaked to have a '-xx% accuracy when targeted by BB' bonus so the change wouldn't nerf their performance. I'm not looking to affect the balance between classes, I'm looking for a way to make the game more enjoyable for most players. I utterly despise having a perfectly aimed salvo completely ruined by RNG (misses and overpens) and I also despise losing 25-100% of HP in my cruiser in one salvo because some BB got lucky with the dice. I would personally love to see tweaks to the mechanics so the influence of RNG/luck is diminished.
-
I don't see any difference between missing 9 out of 10 salvos and a stray hitting a citadel on the tenth, or hitting 5 out of 10 salvos for the same amount of damage. If you had bothered to read my second sentence it would've been clear that I would want proposed change to be tweaked in such a way that the overal damage stays the same. The big improvement would be that the game becomes much more enjoyable for both the damage dealer (more consistent damage done) and the damage receiver (not losing a load of HP in a single salvo). Then there is the fact that bobs will camp in battleships no matter what so it is senseless to want to balance mechanics around them.
-
As I've always done I would suggest significantly lowering maximum AP damage while increasing the accuracy and the amount of regular / citadel pens. In the end this would mean damage done stays roughly the same while making the game more fun for everyone because there will be less RNG involved. WG however seems to think it's way more fun to do tons of frustrating overpens / misses all the time and then oneshot a cruiser every now and then.

It is fun, but the odd thing is that the Zao does it just as well. Even better actually if you manage to load AP in time. With the removal of stealth fire I'm starting to use the Zao more agressively and I've been forcing myself to load AP more often in Zao, with very good results. Hindenburg is still better at pushing of course, with better traverse, reload, torp angles, hydro and armor/hp. -

This guy says the Henri IV guns are fine. Then proceeds to do barely any HE damage at all against a Tirpitz. Then proceeds to do barely any AP damage to broadside Alabama at 4km. Yeah gg guns are so fine -
It wasn't. It is planned for 0.6.4 (next big patch), if they decide to go through with it anyway.

I feel kinda sad for Wargaming. If they had put a lot of effort into April Fools content, players would've complained that they shouldn't have wasted so much time on it and that they should've been busy fixing the game/meta instead. Now that they didn't put a lot of effort into it, players complain that they should've done more.

Should divs be banned/removed from Random?
Sander93 replied to rising_uk's topic in General Discussion
It's a bit like soccer actually. Pitching Barcelona against some rural team is not illegal but obviously it won't be a fair match. IMO it's the same with divisions as long as there is no mirror skill-based matchmaking. I agree that theoretically everyone can join up with good players and that in theory everyone can have an equal advantage over time, but fact is that during any single match there is a high probability that a division can influence the outcome if they don't meet equally skilled opponents. Divisions are fair game, but they are not fair. However odd that may sound. -

Sander93 replied to rising_uk's topic in General Discussion
They would be fine if there was skill-based mirror matchmaking. Right now a division with 3 good players can easily get a 70-90% win ratio, which is a little bit like cheating. Not saying divisions should be banned or otherwise tempered with, just stating the fact that divisions are not 100% fair. -
Tested it on a 6 point captain I had lying around, allocated one point to skills and then redistributed with 5 unallocated points left. Got all six points back.

The tier 10 is such a joke that they accidentally turned it into a cruise ship instead of a cruiser. They put a pair of benches on the stern. I really hope they will tweak the stats and make her way more interesting/diverse before releasing the tree. -
